OMRON VT-X750: 300-Slice CT X-Ray Inspection Takes the Stage at NEPCON Asia Shenzhen

October 3, 2026

Category: SMT Inspection (AXI) | Brand: OMRON | Angle: Timeliness | Date: 2026-10-03

The autumn exhibition season is here, and NEPCON ASIA 2026 opens October 27-29 at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center (Bao’an). Among the 600+ exhibitors, OMRON Automation (China) will stand at Booth 13E75 in Hall 13 with a machine that answers one of the most stubborn questions in modern SMT: how do you X-ray inspect every board, on the line, at line speed? Its answer is the VT-X750, a high-speed CT-type automated X-ray inspection system (AXI).

Why This Machine Matters Right Now

Two forces are colliding on today’s SMT lines. AI servers and 800G/1.6T optical modules are pushing board density to new extremes, while EV power electronics – IGBTs and MOSFETs – demand zero-defect solder joints hidden beneath the package. Conventional 2D and 2.5D X-ray systems blur double-sided boards together, and offline CT is too slow for production. OMRON’s global semiconductor sales backdrop tells the same story: Q2 2026 worldwide semiconductor sales reached $403.3 billion, up 35.1% quarter-over-quarter, and every one of those boards needs verification.

NEPCON Asia has made automotive electronics one of its three flagship zones this year, complete with a live demonstration line – which is exactly the environment where the VT-X750 earns its place.

What the VT-X750 Actually Delivers

  • True 3D-CT slices, inline: Up to 300 CT slices per board with selectable resolution from 6 to 30 um per pixel, using a microfocus closed tube (130 kV) and flat panel detector. Double-sided, high-density boards are no longer a blind spot.
  • Full-board, 100% inspection at production speed: In OMRON’s own published comparison, an 8-FOV example board dropped from 70.9 seconds on the previous model to 34.8 seconds on the VT-X750 – more than 2x faster – which is what finally made inline, full-panel CT inspection practical instead of a lab exercise.
  • Omron AI built in: Auto-Judge combines quantitative criteria with AI analysis for OK/NG decisions; the system auto-generates programs from CAD data and even simulates optimal takt time and X-ray dose per component before production starts.
  • Radiation under control: The X-ray source sits below the board, a dose-reduction filter is standard, leakage stays below 0.5 uSv/h, and operator exposure is rated under 0.18 mSv per year – roughly one-tenth of natural background.
  • Real boards, real parts: BGA/CSP, QFN, PoP stacks, press-fit connectors, through-hole solder fill – inspected without destroying the unit. Footprint is a line-friendly 1,550 x 1,925 mm at about 3 tons.

A Word for the Used-Equipment Buyer

The VT-X750 has been in the field since 2018, so clean second-hand units are starting to appear – and they hold value because inline CT capability is exactly what automotive and AI-hardware contracts demand. When evaluating a used unit, check the closed X-ray tube’s operating hours and replacement history, the FPD condition, the software license level (Auto-Judge and AI options are paid tiers), and whether the Japanese-made shielded enclosure still passes local radiation certification. A well-documented VT-X750 at a sensible price can be the cheapest ticket into full inline CT inspection.

If you are in Shenzhen this month, Booth 13E75, Hall 13, October 27-29 is the place to see what 300 slices per board looks like in real time.
